Although the Quran boasts precision of facts and perfection of thoroughness, contradictions and inconsistencies abound in the Quran. For example, in one verse, the Quran states Allah created earth and heaven in eight days:
“Say, “Do you indeed disbelieve in He who created the earth in two days and believe in equals to Him? He is the Lord of the whole universe.” And He placed on the earth firmly set mountains over its surface, and He blessed it and determined therein its [creatures’] sustenance in four days without distinction – for [the information] of those who ask. Then He directed Himself to the sky while it was smoke and said to it and to the earth, “Come [into being], willingly or by compulsion.” They said, “We have come willingly.” And He completed the seven skies in two days and inspired in each sky its law. (Fussilat, 9-12)
However, in three other verses in three different Chapters, the Quran says that Allah created earth and heaven in six days:
“Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the skies and earth in six days” (Al-Aaraaf, 54)
The contradiction is not only in the number of days but in the order: earth first or heavens first. This inconsistency occurs in many verses such as Al-Nazeaat, 27-32 and Al-Baqara, 29.
Another obvious error is in the following verses where the Quran says that Allah made night and day in the sky.

“He raised the sky’s ceiling and proportioned it. And He darkened its night and brought about its morning light.” (Al-Nazeaat, 28-29)

Facts are that night and day are phenomena on earth, not in the sky, due to the rotation of the earth around the sun. Night and day are not sky occurrences.

Also, the Quran makes many contradictory statements such as:
“And had your Lord willed, those on earth would have believed – all of them entirely. Then, [O Muhammad], would you compel the people so that they become believers?” (Yunis, 99)
This is diametrically opposite to:
“Fight those who do not believe in Allah….” (Al-Touba, 29)
There are other nine similar contradictory occurrences about the same idea in the Quran.
Moreover, the Quran says that Noah and all his family were saved in the Flood:
“And Noah, when he called [to Allah], so We responded to him and saved him and his family from the great flood.” (Al-Anbiaa, 76)
But in another Chapter, the Quran says that his son drowned!
“…And Noah called to his son who was apart [from them], “O my son, come aboard with us and be not with the disbelievers. But he said, “I will take refuge on a mountain to protect me from the water.” [Noah] said, “There is no protector today from the decree of Allah, except for whom He gives mercy. And the waves came between them, and he was among the drowned.” (Huud, 42-43)
Another striking inconsistency is found in Chapters Al-Aaraf, 107 and Al-Shoaraa, 32 where Moses stick or staff turns into an actual snake:
“So [Moses] threw his staff, and suddenly it was a manifest serpent.” (Al-Shoaraa, 32 and Al-Aaraf, 107)
In both verses, the staff unequivocally becomes a snake. However, this contradicts Chapters Al-Naml, 10 and Al-Qasas, 31:
“And [he was told], “Throw down your staff,” and he saw it shaking as if it were a snake.” (Al-Naml 10)
In this verse, the staff did not turn into a snake but it shook “as if” it were a snake. It is a big difference and a gigantic contradiction between “a manifest snake” in one verse and “shaking as if it were a snake” in another.
Another blatant inconsistency is found in the fate of The Pharaoh who chased Moses and the Israelites:
…and indeed I think, O Pharaoh, that you are destroyed. ”
So he intended to drive them from the land, but We drowned him and those with him all together.” (AL-Israa, 102-103)
This is emphasized again in Al-Zokhrof, 55. However, this is not the meaning in:
“So today We will save you in body that you may be to those who succeed you a sign. And indeed, many among the people, of Our signs, are heedless.” (Yunis, 92)
Another blatant contradiction is found in:
“But We threw him [Yunis] onto the open shore while he was ill.” (Al-Safaat, 145)
Here the prophet Yunis was thrown onto the open which is NOT the same as:
“If without that favor from his Lord made to him (Yunis), he would have been thrown onto the open shore while he was reprimanded.” (Al-Qalam, 49)
In Aal-Omran, 67, “Ibraham was……a Muslim.” And in Yunis, 72, Noah “was ordered to be of the Muslims.”
This comes in negation to Muhammad’s confirmation in Al-Anaam, 163, “I am the first Muslim.”
Another error is found in Chapter Yaseen, 38.
“And the sun runs [on course] toward its settling point”. (Yaseen, 38)
The verse states that after night falls on earth, the sun settles down during night time according to Ibn Katheer and Al-Qurtobi exegeses. This is a serious lapse in the Quran as well. The sun rotates on its axis. The sun moves in its orbit around the barycenter of the solar system. The sun also revolves around the center of our Galaxy. The sun never stops or settles.
So far, this section showed the tip of the iceberg of barefaced contradictions and errors in the Quran. There are more than a hundred other discrepancies and inaccuracies that need a separate book to catalogue, all contrary to facts, linguistic mistakes, and contextual contradictions. However, it is hoped that radical Muslims would show a little humbleness and some meekness after they knew what their religion is about and learned about the truth of their Quran.
